Machu Picchu Entrance Tickets and Circuits
Entrance tickets to Machu Picchu in 2026 follow a specific "Circuit" system designed to manage visitor flow and preserve the site. Tickets should be purchased 3 to 4 months in advance, especially for peak season (May–September).
1. Official Booking Information
- Official Website: tuboleto.cultura.pe or machupicchu.gob.pe.
- In-Person Tickets: Approximately 1,000 tickets are sold daily in the town of Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo) for the following day’s visit. You must show up early with your physical passport to join the queue.
- Identification: You must present the physical passport or ID used during the booking at the entrance gate.
2. Ticket Types & Circuits
As of 2024–2026, there are 3 main circuits comprising 10 specific routes. You cannot backtrack or change circuits once inside.

| Circuit 3 (Royalty) | Hikes & accessibility | Lower citadel part (House of the Inka). Includes the Huayna Picchu hike or Huchuy Picchu hike. |
- Note: Routes 1-C (Sun Gate), 1-D (Inca Bridge), 3-C (Great Cavern), and 3-D (Huayna Picchu) are seasonal and typically only available during high season (June 1 – Oct 15 and Dec 30–31).

4. Important Rules & Tips
- No Re-entry: Once you exit the citadel, you cannot re-enter on the same ticket. Plan your bathroom break at the entrance beforeentering.
- Entry Tolerance: There is a 30–45 minute grace period for your time slot. If you arrive later than 45 minutes past your ticket time, you may be denied entry.
- Guide Requirement: Officially, a licensed guide is required to enter, though this is often not strictly enforced at the gate. However, a guide is highly recommended to navigate the one-way circuits correctly.
- Circuit 2 sells out first: Because it offers the "best of both worlds" (the postcard view and the main ruins), it is usually the first to disappear from the website.
- Hiking Huayna Picchu (3-A): This is the most popular hike and often sells out 4+ months in advance. It follows Circuit 3, which means you visit the lower part of the ruins but do not get the "classic high-angle photo" from the Guardian's House. Many travelers buy two tickets (Circuit 2 and Circuit 3-A) to see everything.
